Luke R. Harper is an artist and animator from Houston, Texas, and he lives in New York City. He loves drawing, and his parents say his first drawing was Thomas the Tank Engine in 3/4 perspective on the back of a diner menu when he was two years old. Luke also loves the history of natural philosophy that accompanies drawing, and animation’s inheritance in the worldwide legacy of art, which are concepts entwined by literature; and working out is his hobby.

These 2.5 character illustrations of Headcannon and Professor J, the protagonists of the Headcannon Opening, I drew using the same process with which I animated them in Toon Boom Harmony.
I completely animated this opening sequence for the independent video-game created by Clipper Arnold titled Headcannon, and my intent was to portray every element of the game in its introduction.
The hero, Headcannon, alongside his creator, the genius engineer and scientist, Professor J, defend her laboratory from an assault by a variety of brain-themed monsters: the enemies of heart and hope!

Scene 01 of the Headcannon Opening introduces Headcannon himself in a flash of hope radiating from his very own head-cannon.
Headcannon leaps into immediate action against unseen enemies in this introductory scene, exhibiting how he both runs, and shoots.
The natural, blue atmosphere matches Headcannon’s energy: emphasizing, in resonance, the colors of him firing and running.

Scene 02 of the Headcannon Opening introduces the primary enemies Headcannon faces: the octobrains, and the brainbots.
The drone-like octobrains contrast with the heavy-footed brainbot, which enters the scene by teleporting as it does in the video-game.
Corresponding with the portal’s electric effect, I animated the robot antagonist’s glass-encased brain as if it were a plasma globe.
